Detectives are investigating the circumstances behind a house fire in Alice Springs in which a young child died.
Emergency services when to the home in Larapinta about 10.30am on Thursday following reports a person was trapped inside.
They entered the house, which was engulfed in flames, and tried to revive the child, Northern Territory police said.
The child was taken by ambulance to Alice Springs Hospital but did not respond to medical intervention and died.
Regional crime detectives and fire investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the fire.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
