Child, 4, ‘playing in park’ attacked by three dogs in east London

A boy has been rushed to hospital after being mauled by a dog in east London.

Police rushed to the scene in Ackroyd Drive where the boy suffered multiple bite injuries at a playground in Ackroyd Drive, Poplar at 3.20pm on Saturday.

The boy’s distraught mother accompanied the tot to hospital where his injuries were designated “non-life-threatening”.

The dog’s owner, reportedly warned of bringing the pets into the estate’s shared playground, was also bitten but refused hospital treatment.

Three dogs were seized by police after the attack.

Labour Cllr Mohammad Chowdhury told the Standard: “The child was playing in the park within the estate.

Dogs are not allowed in the park. Residents tell me that the owner has already been told the owner not to bring the dog in to the park.”

He added: “The boy has been taken to hospital by ambulance and is accompanied by the mother. She was really shocked.”

Horrifying footage shot from a high-rise flat nearby picks up the victim’s high-pitched screams as he tries to get the dogs off him.

Police are later seen struggling to put a large dog in the back of a van.

A Met spokesman said: “Police were called at about 15:20hrs on Saturday, 8 July to reports of a child attacked by a dog in a recreation ground near to Ackroyd Drive,E3.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended.

“At the scene a 4-year-old boy was found with bite injuries. He was taken to hospital as a precaution and his injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening.

“Three dogs were seized by officers and will be assessed.

“The owner of the dogs was also treated at the scene for a bite injury but declined to go to hospital.

“No arrests and enquiries continue.”
