Chiefs Trade for Raiders DT Neil Farrell Amid Chris Jones Holdout, per Report

The Chiefs traded a sixth-round draft pick to the Raiders in exchange for defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr., adding some cushion to their defensive line as Chris Jones continues his holdout from the franchise, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jones did not participate in the team’s training camp and has not been in contact with team, according to coach Andy Reid. The four-time Pro Bowler is seeking a new contract extension with hopes of earning near $30 million annually, according to Sports Illustrated’s Greg Bishop.

The 29-year-old desires to be paid the type of money that Rams’ Aaron Donald is making after recording a monster ’22 campaign, registering a career-high 15.5 sacks. In his seven-year NFL career, Jones has recorded 65 sacks.

Currently, Jones has one year remaining on the four-year, $80 million deal that he signed to join Kansas City in ’20. Amid Jones’s absence, Farrell provides Kansas City with another big body on the defensive line.

The former fourth-round pick in the ’22 NFL draft played in nine games last season, recording 12 tackles (three solo), one tackle for loss and two quarterback hits. Farrell was part of the defensive unit for the 2019–20 LSU football team that won the College Football Playoff national championship.

During his LSU career, Farrell played in 51 games and recorded 143 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Last week, Jones told an internet troll that he could potentially remain away from the team until “Week 8” as he seeks to strike a new deal with the team.

While Farrell is not Jones, he could be a huge asset for the Chiefs defensive front at the tackle position, which also features Keondre Coburn and Tershawn Wharton.
