Chiefs TE Travis Kelce addresses sideline helmet throw vs. Raiders

Tempers flared on the Kansas City Chiefs sideline during their Christmas day loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16. Star tight end Travis Kelce was seen throwing his helmet during a particularly frustrating moment in the game that stood out among other signs of discontent on Kansas City’s bench.

Kelce addressed the helmet-toss incident on his New Heights podcast with his brother, fellow NFL veteran Jason Kelce. The All-Pro pass catcher didn’t make any excuses for his behavior and was apologetic in responding to Jason’s question about what happened.

“I didn’t go back out there and play good,” Travis explained. “He [head coach Andy Reid] wanted to see the fire in me, and I reacted in a bad way. He wanted to get the best out of me. Right now, I’m not playing my best football… As a leader on this team, that’s not how you switch momentum.”

Fans will certainly appreciate Travis’ frustration with the Chiefs’ performance against the Raiders on Monday, and his contrite response to the incident on the sideline.

With just two weeks of the 2023 regular season remaining, the time for Kansas City and Travis Kelce to clean up their acts is now, lest they lose out and squander their opportunity to compete in January’s playoffs.
