Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid could be losing another member of his coaching staff, this time to NFL ranks.
We already know that Chiefs LB coach Matt House plans to leave to become LSU’s defensive coordinator. Reid, during his Monday end-of-season media availability, suggested there could be more departures in the coming weeks. We now know that one member of his offensive staff is being considered for another job.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Chiefs QB coach/passing game coordinator Mike Kafka is among those expected to be finalists for the Giants offensive coordinator job under new HC Brian Daboll. Kafka joins both Pep Hamilton and Chad O’Shea as the three expected finalists.

According to Sirius XM NFL’s Adam Caplan, Kafka’s in-person interview with New York is set for Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Last offseason, Kafka was in the running for the Seahawks OC job and for the Eagles’ HC job. Andy Reid promoted Kafka, adding the title of passing game coordinator, in order to keep him around in Kansas City. Now, he may need to promote him again in order to keep him around. Kafka has often been viewed as a successor to current Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy should he get an opportunity to become a head coach.
Obviously, there is a new complication that popped up late Tuesday afternoon, with the New York Giants being named in a lawsuit by former Miami Dolphins HC Brian Flores alleging discriminatory hiring practices. That could dissuade a coach like Kafka from leaving Kansas City.
