The injury to Kansas City Chiefs starting running back Isiah Pacheco after Sunday’s victory over the Cincinnati Bengals created concern about the team’s future this season.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed running back Isiah Pacheco’s injury status with reporters via Zoom on Monday.
“As far as (Isiah) Pacheco goes, we will go with the guys that we have here now. (Brett) Veach is kind of going through his list and looking at people; we’ll just see where that goes,” said Reid. “I don’t have a time frame on Pacheco, but I know it will be this week (out), and it’ll probably be more than that, so obviously, but it’s going to take a little bit of time there.”
Pacheco suffered an ankle injury late in the fourth quarter, limping off to the sidelines. The trainers examined him for the remainder of the game and continued later in the evening.
“I think he’s in a better place. That’s tough,” said Reid. “I mean, here’s a guy that, that’s a guy that loves to play the game, and so he had tears, he was emotional, but you don’t ever want to lose an emotional sport, and that kid, nobody likes to play more than he likes to play. So you’re gonna see that, and that’s what’s so great about this sport here.”
The report from Adam Schefter early Monday morning that Kansas City is likely to place Pacheco on injured reserve opens the opportunity for running back options. General manager Brett Veach will actively make adjustments ahead of the team’s matchup next week against the Atlanta Falcons.
