CHENNAI: The odds were stacked against East Bengal ahead of their clash against Chennaiyin FC. They were on a three-match losing streak, their influential midfielder Borja Herrera was unavailable owing to an injury, and they had landed in Chennai on the morning of the match day because their flight was delayed due to bad weather.
Despite all the setbacks, East Bengal eked out a 1-1 draw against Chennaiyin at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday. After the match though, coach Carlos Cuadrat said: “We cannot give that as an excuse, these things happen. The players had enough time to be physically prepared for the match. I do not have anything to say (if flight delay affected their plans).”
