'Chemical leak' causes panic as Dublin Fire Brigade attend with special equipment after reports

Dublin Fire Brigade jumped into action over the weekend, after a reported chemical leak caused concern for locals.

The incident appeared to have taken place near the North Dock in the capital city and required the arrival of a specialist crew and equipment from Dublin Fire Brigade.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the hullabaloo.

A Dublin Fire Brigade statement on social media explained: "At the weekend firefighters responded to a hazmat incident after reports of a chemical leaking. The incident was concluded with no injuries.

DFB also added a fun fact, telling their followers: "DidYouKnow we have specialist Hazmat appliances in Donnybrook and Dun Laoghaire fire stations that respond across the city and county

"All our frontline appliances have enough equipment to deal with the initial stages of a HazChem incident. These units are not required immediately. Slow and steady is the key with HazChem incidents."

It was a busy few days for Dublin Fire Brigade, as they had to rescue a dog that had gotten trapped under a LUAS tram in the city centre on Monday.

The pooch called Billy ended up beneath the red line commuter service at Fatima shortly before 3pm with services delayed as a result.

Concerned animal lovers gathered around the tram and attempted to help the frightened dog until emergency services arrived a short-time later.

Dublin Fire Brigade along with the DSPCA arrived at the scene and after close to an hour of trying were able to free their canine friend and assured everyone that Billy was getting the care he needed.

The dog was described as "injured but alive" with emergency services personnel getting a round of applause after the rescue.
