Chelsea wonderkid Levi Colwill to join Brighton after Marc Cucurella transfer with clause added

Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill is set to join Brighton on a permanent deal this summer, football.london understands. The 19-year-old has been of interest to a number of Premier League clubs following his return to Cobham, however it appears as though the Seagulls have won the race.

The move to the south coast for the centre-back is set to come after defender Marc Cucurella moves to Stamford Bridge from the Amex stadium. football.london has been told that a deal has been agreed with Brighton for the Spaniard, worth over £50million after personal terms were already settled upon.

It will see Thomas Tuchel finally add another player to his defence, with Cucurella able to play at left-back, wing-back and at centre-back. The German coach has looked to strengthen his options at the back, following the loss of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as free transfers.

The deal will be welcome news for the Blues, who have struggled to land as many targets as expected. It has seen Tuchel bemoan his lack of options and having the "same players" at his disposal with the "same problems" occurring.

While Cucurella will add a quality option to the squad, the loss of Colwill could see the side make a mistake that they are all too familiar with. Recent seasons have seen quality youth options leave for other teams, with the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi going on to impress.

Interest in Colwill comes with little surprise, given how he impressed on loan at Huddersfield Town last season, guiding the Terriers to a Championship playoff final. His return to Chelsea comes with uncertainty surrounding game time, but a move to Brighton could see him become a key figure as he progresses.

Should he become an elite prospect, the Blues may have covered their backs where they missed out last time, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that a buyback clause will be included in the deal. It could see Chelsea move again for the youngster in the future, where they have missed out on doing so in the past.
