Xabi Alonso will manage Liverpool in the future.
That is according to former Reds star Ryan Babel, who is expecting his former team-mate's "chapter" at Chelsea to end and a return to Anfield to happen in the future.
Liverpool did not decide to pursue the appointment of former player Alonso last season while deciding to sack Arne Slot, with Andoni Iraola instead ending up in the Anfield hot seat.
By that time, Alonso had already been appointed by Chelsea, who moved quickly to replace Liam Rosenior who lasted less than four months into a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Babel believes "timing is everything" and firmly expects Alonso to one day return to Merseyside, and has even predicted Steven Gerrard to eventually be appointed to the role.
"Speaking on behalf of SeatPick - the leading platform for Liverpool tickets, Babel said: "I believe Xabi Alonso’s story is eventually meant to include another affiliation with Liverpool, but the timing was not in his or the club's favour for him to join right now.
"That is fine, he is at Chelsea and I wish him well, except when he plays against Liverpool. Eventually, that chapter will end.
"In a few years, who knows where he or Liverpool will be. The same goes for Steven Gerrard. We would all love to see that story play out with him as Liverpool manager. If it ever happens, it would be an amazing story for the club.
"For Alonso, I’m confident that he will be managing Liverpool one day."
