Mason Mount looks set to be the first Chelsea star to benefit from the west London club's imminent takeover, with Todd Boehy reportedly keen to secure the 23-year-old's future. The Cobham graduate has been central to much of the Blues' success since breaking into the first-team under Frank Lampard.
The midfielder, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in 2024, has featured a total of 160 times for Chelsea, directly contributing towards 61 goals. His impressive displays have guided the Blues to a European and World title, while also playing a key role in Gareth Southgate's project for England too.
Following a successful campaign, Mount has now won back-to-back player of the year awards in west London and the new ownership group at Chelsea want to reward him for his efforts. The Blues are preparing to gift Mount with a new contract that reflects his value as one of the world’s leading attacking midfielders, according to i.

The report claims that Mount, who is reportedly on wages of around £80,000-per-week, is expected to have his pay packet at least doubled under a new agreement that will be permitted once the Chelsea takeover has been completed. The Premier League confirmed on Tuesday evening that they had approved the takeover and the UK Government are set to approve the west London side's £4.25bn sale in the next 24 hours, according to the BBC.
And, according to the BBC, the Government are set to give Chelsea the green light. Boehly’s bid fought off competition from Sir Jim Ratcliffe; parties headed by Stephen Pagliuca and Sir Martin Broughton, respectively, to secure the purchase of Chelsea.
The sale is expected to go through in the coming hours, with the club's special sporting licence set to expire on May 31. In the meantime, Chelsea are set to lose both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen at the end of the season as a result of their contracts expiring, and several others have little time left on their deals.
Mount, however, is considered to be the future of the club. With the midfielder regarded as being deserving of a huge pay rise, Boehly's consortium want to solve the matter before it becomes another issue down the line. Signing the Cobham graduate to a long-term deal would certainly be a constructive start for the new ownership and a way to immediately get fans on board.
However, Tuchel will not want Chelsea's summer business to stop there. Speaking on areas of improvement the Blues need to look at next season, the German boss said: "If we stick to the group then we will try to solve it with these players. Is it necessary to bring more offensive players around the box to create more distractions, to create more space for each other? We will ask that question.
"Can we do better in the structure? Can we push the players more? Did we rotate too much? Let’s see. There are a lot of options. The numbers we produce from our offensive players don’t allow us to overperform and we need overperformance if we want to be nearer to the top two teams.
"I am not pointing fingers, I am not blaming anybody, but we need overperformance from everybody. It’s not overperformance if we have only single figures in scoring and assisting."
