Chelsea plot EIGHT-man summer clear out to reduce bloated squad after record transfer spend

Chelsea could offload the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic in a summer clear out.

The Blues are looking to reduce their bloated squad from 33 players to a more typical 25-man group.

There is a growing feeling that Mateo Kovacic is another player who could depart with Chelsea yet to open talks over an extension to his current contract, which has just 16 months left to run.

Manchester City are interested in his signature, along with former boss Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich. Chelsea also want to sign a new defensive midfielder to partner record signing Enzo Fernandez.

There has also been no progress over Mason Mount’s contract renewal since talks broke down shortly after the World Cup, with his current deal up in 2024. The midfielder, 24, has enlisted the help of Neil Fewings from the Roof football agency. Liverpool, Manchester United and City all represent possible destinations, but he could also stay and the next round of talks are likely to prove critical.

Similarly, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has had no talks with Chelsea after discussions collapsed in September. He is now unlikely to discuss a new deal until the end of the season, possibly paving the way for his exit.
