The new owner of Chelsea, Todd Boehly, admits the Premier League 'big six' will soon welcome a new addition in the form of Newcastle United.
Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital completed their £4.25 billion Chelsea takeover last month after Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich was forced to put the Blues up for sale after the invasion of Ukraine. Boehly now has the keys to one of the biggest football clubs in the world but admits Newcastle will soon be competing on the same playing field after their own change of ownership.
“The big six will become the big seven with the Saudi deal for Newcastle,” Boehly told the SuperReturn International private equity conference in Berlin on Wednesday. “There is going to be opportunity for everyone to win.”
