Chelsea: Mykhailo Mudryk issues training update in new video as doping suspension limbo drags on

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is continuing to train amid his ongoing doping suspension.

The Ukraine international, formerly Chelsea’s No10, has not appeared for the Blues since scoring in a 2-0 Conference League defeat of Heidenheim in November 2024.

He was handed a provisional suspension after failing a routine drugs test in December 2024, and was formally charged by the FA last June.

Mudryk, who has strenuously denied the charges against him, is still waiting for test results from a ‘B’ sample. He is facing a ban of up to four years under current FA regulations should he be found guilty.

He is continuing to train as he waits to learn his sentence, though.

In a new video shared to his 1.8million Instagram followers, Mudryk can be seen undergoing a shooting drill at Uxbridge FC’s Honeycroft stadium.

He receives the ball from a coach, turns past a dummy and finishes smartly beyond a rooted goalkeeper with his weaker left foot, rattling both posts.

He is not thought to be training with Uxbridge FC, a non-league club at step four. He is simply training on their artificial pitch.

According to BBC Sport, he has invested heavily in keeping fit and sharp through his suspension, hiring good quality facilities, a private coach and a goalkeeper.

It remains unclear when Mudryk will return to the pitch, but speaking after being appointed as Chelsea’s head coach, Liam Rosenior said he planned to hold talks with the Ukrainian.

Asked whether he had spoken to Mudryk, Rosenior said: “It’s definitely something that I want to do, but there are many things I want to do and haven’t been able to do.

“He’s a magnificent player. He’s had a really difficult time and when the moment is right for me and him and the club, I’ll definitely have a conversation with him.”

Public appearances have been few and far between for the winger throughout his suspension, though he surprised Chelsea supporters as he turned up in Wroclaw to watch his team-mates triumph in the Conference League final. He met with fans in bars across the city and was later pictured celebrating the win with Enzo Fernandez.

He picked up a medal for the part he played in Chelsea’s campaign, during which he scored three goals in six appearances, but has since lost his No10 shirt to Cole Palmer.

After being notified of his doping charge by the FA, Mudryk wrote on Instagram that the news “comes as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.”

Chelsea added in a club statement that they “fully support” the FA’s drug testing program and committed to cooperating with its investigation.
