Chelsea hold key advantage over Man Utd in Moises Caicedo transfer battle after Mason Mount issue

Chelsea's battle with Manchester United for Moises Caicedo in the summer transfer window may well favour the Blues, due to one key advantage. The two Premier League sides look set to cross paths in the coming months as each team searches for new signings that will bolster their squad.

One of the main points of contention between the Blues and the Red Devils is over Mason Mount, who could be set to leave Stamford Bridge. With just one year left on his deal, the 24-year-old appears to favour a move away rather than a contract extension with the club.

United have been the team to make a swoop, though their opening two offers were rejected as football.london understood that they fell below the £70million valuation that was set. There was some wiggle room in negotiations that recently opened up though as £60million-£65million appeared to be the new benchmark.

That valuation hasn't been met so far as reports claim that United dropped their interest in Mount and have moved on to look at other targets. That's not to say a deal may be revisited though, but the price point appears to be a contentious area that cannot be agreed on yet.

Focus appears to have shifted towards Caicedo, despite the fact that he and Mount are very different players in the midfield department. While he would be more expensive than the England international, reports have stated that the Brighton star's contract situation and younger age make for a better-value signing.

That would mean they are challenging Chelsea for his signature as football.london understands that Caicedo is a priority target for the summer. While they cannot offer any European football compared to their rivals, the west London outfit do hold one key advantage in their approach for the 21-year-old.

That being, according to Fabrizio Romano, the fact that Caicedo has chosen Chelsea as his priority destination this summer over other clubs. The journalist claims that it remains to be seen whether Manchester United will join the race with a bid, but the Blues are expected to make another offer in the coming days.

It could see Chelsea win the battle to sign the midfielder, while United could miss out on him as well as a move for Mount. That may not be the only crossover between the pair of clubs, with both looking to land a goalkeeper and striker in the market, there could still be battles ahead.
