Chelsea confirm appointment of former Man City chief in Todd Boehly shake-up

Chelsea have appointed Tom Glick as their new President of Business as new owner Todd Boehly continues his shake-up at Stamford Bridge.

Glick's role will see him take on responsibilities around the day-to-day running of the London club, with his role expected to be similar to that held by former CEO Guy Laurence. He arrives having previously spent time at City Football Group, owner of Manchester City among other clubs, where he served as Chief Commercial Officer.

The appointment is the latest move from Boehly as he puts his mark on the club after completing his takeover in May. In Glick, he has introduced someone with significant experience not just in football but within other sports, including in the United States.

During his time as Chief Commercial Officer of City Football Group, Glick was responsible for global business operations across the world. He also spent time as CEO of Derby County, and held senior marketing positions with the New Jersey Nets and the NBA.

Glick, who has also served on the Football League Board, the FA Council, and the Professional Game Board, most recently served as President of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers franchise, where he managed extensive improvements to Bank of America Stadium. He also oversaw the creation of Major League Soccer’s Charlotte Football Club, who Chelsea are due to take on in their next pre-season friendly after beating Club America in Las Vegas.

The appointment follows a number of changes behind the scenes at Chelsea since Boehly's takeover. The new owner installed himself as interim sporting director after the exit of Marina Granovskaia, while former chairman Bruce Buck has also left the club.

"Tom’s successful track record as a leader and innovator at several respected and winning sport organisations made him the obvious choice for this position," Boehly said. "His skills and experience will be vital as we improve Chelsea FC’s key infrastructure, expand the Club’s products and reputation, and find exciting new ways for our loyal supporters to engage with their favourite players."

Upon confirming himself as chairman in June, Boehly detailed a nine-person board including himself and his co-owners. Other board members include Times columnist Lord Finkelstein and Barbara Charone of MBC PR.

"Chelsea FC is an iconic sports institution, known and admired all over the world," Glick said in a statement following his arrival. "I have been very impressed with the vision and mission of Todd Boehly and Clearlake.

"They have the Chelsea community at the heart of everything they do. We have a huge opportunity here to enhance performance across the board, on behalf of everyone we serve."

Glick's arrival comes less than a month before Chelsea kick off their first Premier League season under Boehly's ownership. The first team are currently on their pre-season tour of the US, where games against Charlotte FC and Arsenal are scheduled for the coming days, and the Blues will also face Udinese at Friuli at the end of July before kicking off their domestic season with a league trip to Everton.
