Check if you're due £25 Cold Weather Payment as more are triggered for post codes in North East

More post codes are now due a Cold Weather Payment.

The DWP's site confirms that additional Cold Weather Payments have been triggered for eligible people who claim low-income benefits.

The £25 payment is made for every seven days that the average temperature is recorded at 0c or below. To get the payment, you must be claiming low-income benefits and have an additional need, like an inability to work for health reasons, a disability or you look after a child who is aged under five or disabled.

Each post code is linked to a weather station. If that weather station records or forecasts an average temperature of below 0 Celcius, then the payments are made. The top-up should arrive within 14 days of the payment being triggered.

Cold weather payments were triggered for post codes across the North East late last week. Now more have been added.

A DWP spokesman said: “These additional payments provide support every year to help people experiencing the coldest weather.

“Cold weather payments can be triggered right through to the end of March, giving people facing disproportionately cold weather that extra reassurance over the chillier months.”

More post codes in Northumberland are now due a Cold Weather Payment after 0c temperatures were recorded and forecast for the weather station in Morpeth used to monitor cold weather payments. It follows other weather stations used to record temperatures in other parts of the North East reaching the below-freezing-for-seven-days threshold last week.

If you qualify for a cold weather payment you can check if your home is due one by entering the first part of your post code ( That will be the first two letters followed by one or two numbers,eg. NE61, SR5, DH4, DL5, TS3 etc) at https://coldweatherpayments.dwp.gov.uk/search.php

Various NE, SR, DH, DL, TS and TD post codes are now due the payments. Those eligible will be paid automatically, they do not need to apply.
