Charlie Dean ended her long wait for T20I action in style as she took three wickets in England’s 16-run victory over the West Indies in Barbados overnight.

Dean was first named in an England T20 squad in August 2021 but did not feature in the series against New Zealand, before being handed her first cap against Australia in Adelaide at the start of this year, only for the match to be washed out.

The 21-year-old spinner has already made Test and ODI bows but is now looking to push her case for the T20 World Cup in South Africa in February.

“I’m really buzzing with my performance, to contribute like that is amazing,” Dean said. “It didn’t really feel like a first T20 for me, off the back of The Hundred and being in the 50-over squad, I felt really comfortable out there.”

After four wins out of four for England across the ODI series and first T20 in Antigua, Wednesday night’s game saw the tour move to Barbados’ Kensington Oval.

The hosts produced an improved bowling display, Sophia Dunkley’s run-a-ball 43 helping England to 141-for-six from 20 overs, but were once again poor with the bat, Dean’s 3-22 the headline as the West Indies were restricted to 125-for-eight in their chase. No9 Afy Fletcher top-scored with 18.
