Charlie Bird has thanked the two kind strangers who confronted him during an "awful crying moment" he experienced while shopping at Dunnes Stores.
The former RTE broadcaster was in Dunnes Stores in Cornelscourt on Wednesday afternoon when the incident took place as a result of his motor neurone disease. Charlie took to Twitter to thank the two women who came to his aid during the experience.
"This is a difficult tweet for me to send," he wrote. "But I want to thank the two ladies who comforted me in Dunnes Stores in Cornelscourt this afternoon.

"I was having one of my awful crying moments, which is a symptom of my MND. The hand of friendship helped me so much. Thanks."
This isn't the first time Charlie has been touched by the kindness of strangers as of late. In a recent tweet, he revealed that while on a break away with his wife Claire and their dog Tiger, he was moved to tears by the kindness he received from strangers.
He wrote: "Sometimes I wish I had a camera with me. Claire and Tiger and I are taking a break and everywhere I go the kindness I am being shown by strangers is amazing, sometimes I end up crying but they are tears of joy."
Charlie recently revealed that he is "really struggling at present" as a result of his illness. He said: "This time last year I didn’t think I would make my 73rd birthday but just over a week to go I will.
"Roll on Christmas and Brucie thanks everyone the love is amazing." On April 2, Charlie climbed Croagh Patrick in Mayo with the help of his family and friends, inspiring thousands of people to do almost two hundred separate Climb with Charlie fundraisers across Ireland, the US, South Africa, Australia and Spain.
In July at a special ceremony in Merrion Square in Dublin, Charlie presented two cheques totalling €3,376,000 to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House, and he thanked the Irish public for their kindness in supporting him and the charities.
