A man has been charged over a fatal stabbing at a home in Melbourne's outer north as a manhunt for his suspected accomplice continues.

Police were called to a Thomastown home on Thursday night and found an unconscious 36-year-old Doreen man with stab wounds.

He died at the property, on Victoria Drive, despite efforts to resuscitate him.

A 45-year-old Glenroy man who was arrested at the scene has since been charged with aggravated burglary, theft and common law assault.

He was scheduled to face court on Saturday.

Detectives are still searching for a second man involved in what they believe was a targeted attack.
