Chargers sign WR Keelan Doss to practice squad

The Chargers have brought a wide receiver home to California.

On Wednesday, the team announced they signed wide receiver Keelan Doss to the practice squad. Doss began his career with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2019 after a standout career at UC Davis and Alameda High School but has also spent time with the Falcons, Jets, and Giants.

In nine career games, Doss has 11 receptions for 133 yards with only one special teams snap. At 6-foot-2, Doss ran a 4.56 40-yard dash at UC Davis’ pro day in 2019, making him a fit for what Los Angeles tends to look for at the position. It seems he may be a potential call-up candidate if Josh Palmer’s injury from Week 4 lingers, considering the other receivers on the roster and practice squad are more slot receiver types.

The Doss signing brings LA’s practice squad to its maximum size of 16, with a potential move required later this week if the Chargers need to add a kicker to replace Dustin Hopkins, who was added to the injury report Wednesday with a quad issue. That could also mean that Doss’ tenure on the Chargers is a short one, as Los Angeles now has four receivers on their practice squad between Doss, Michael Bandy, Joe Reed, and John Hightower.
