Is the Quentin Johnston breakout game here?
Johnston beat Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn one-on-one for a 29-yard touchdown down the sideline in the first quarter to score the first Chargers points of the game. In the second quarter, with Los Angeles grinding Carolina’s defense down on the ground during an 11-play, 65-yard drive, Johnston found himself wide open in the end zone for a second touchdown.
The Panthers sent Horn on a blitz on third and goal from the 5-yard line as Johnston crossed the formation left to right on a route. Carolina linebacker Josey Jewell did not carry Johnston’s route across while linebacker Shaq Thompson crashed on the flat, leaving Johnston wide open in the end zone to score again.
It’s Johnston’s first career game with two touchdowns, a positive sign for the Chargers as they look for a no. 1 receiver to pair with Herbert. Johnston has been the main target so far on Sunday as Los Angeles has taken a 13-0 lead.
herbo to QJ, again.
