Chappell Roan closed out the final set before headliner Olivia Rodrigo at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival on August 29, and she did it with a dramatically new look. Gone was her signature curly hair, replaced by a short, straightened copper-red bob, a shift striking enough that several outlets described it as unrecognizable at first glance.
The hair was paired with a full styling concept built around lilac blush, spiky false lashes and a burgundy lip, worn alongside a purple bodysuit and go-go boots. According to WWD, the costuming referenced Jean Paul Gaultier's costume design for the 1997 film "The Fifth Element," giving the look a retro-futuristic edge that stood apart from the folk and grunge-leaning styling worn by several of her fellow performers that day. The overall effect leaned into a campy, sci-fi glamour that has become a recurring thread in Roan's stage persona, but the closely cropped bob marked a genuine departure from the look fans associate with her.
