Channel 4 to host Debate Night election special tonight – all you need to know

CHANNEL 4 is set to host a General Election debate night with key politicians from the main political parties ready to go head to head.

The debate is due to take place on Tuesday night, June 18, and will be hosted by presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy in front of a live audience in Colchester.

Last week ITV hosted a similar debate night with representatives from across the political spectrum taking part as they answered questions from immigration to why the public's trust in politicians is declining.

Similarly to the ITV debate, the audience on Tuesday will also have the chance to ask their own questions.

When is the debate?

The debate will be hosted on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:30pm and will last for an hour and a half, ending at 8pm.

It will be broadcast on Channel 4 and is a special extension of the Channel 4 News programme.

Who is taking part?

Channel 4 have confirmed that representatives from across seven political parties will be attending.

This includes the SNP’s Keith Brown, Labour’s Nick Thomas-Symonds, Conservative Chris Philp, Green Carla Denyer, LibDem Daisy Cooper, Plaid Cymru’s Rhun ap Iorwerth and Reform UK’s Richard Tice.

Journalist and presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy will host and chair the evening.

What will be discussed?

The format of the evening will involve set topics, with challenges between representatives allowed, and audience questions.

Channel 4 has partnered with Savanta and has commissioned exclusive data around the themes of immigration and law and order which will be released ahead of the debate.
