Channel 4 A Place in the Sun buyers pay 'outrageous' price for apartment

A Place in the Sun host Lee Juggurnauth was taken aback during the latest instalment of the show as buyers made an offer on a Spanish property.

The episode saw Lee helping Robert and Thomas in their search for a perfect holiday home in Torrevieja on Spain's Costa Blanca. The couple, from Glasgow, wanted to find somewhere they could stay that would double up as somewhere to entertain their friends.

With a maximum budget of £83,000, they wanted a place with at least two bedrooms and plenty of space to host.

As the search progressed, they were shown a number of homes by Lee but were not really wowed by any of them. Until, that is, they saw the fifth and final property. On the market for just under £77,000, it had "a real social space" and was in a sought-after location.

And when it came to making a decision, Robert and Thomas said they wanted to put an offer in on the bungalow. When Lee asked how much they would like to put to the vendor, Robert replied: "We were thinking £65,000."

Lee said: "That's quite a cheeky offer! It's £12,000 less than the asking price. Let me give the agent a call and see what he says."

While this amount was turned down, the estate agent put a counter offer of £70,000 to them. The couple went back with an offer of £68,000 and this was accepted.

Lee said: "That's amazing news. You've literally found yourself a place in the sun!"

And while some fans of the show were happy for them, others took issue with the amount they paid. Taking to Twitter, @shrimpsy291 said: "Best of luck to them", while Ashley said: "Two outrageous offers there, but fair play". Kathryn said: "So so cheeky, they've pushed their luck there".

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4 and All 4
