Chances of Ronan Darcy making loan transfer move and other Bolton Wanderers exits assessed

Ian Evatt is not sure if Ronan Darcy will head back out on loan to get some more minutes under his belt away from Bolton Wanderers during the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old is now back at Wanderers having spent the first half of the season out on loan at Sogndal in Norway.

Academy product Darcy played nine times for the Norwegian side and recently played his first game of the season for Bolton earlier this month.

He came off the bench for Marlon Fossey towards the end of the 2-0 loss at home to Wycombe Wanderers last week.

The question of whether Darcy - who earlier in the season put pen to paper on a new contract at Wanderers until the summer of 2023 - might now head back on loan to pick up more experience has now risen.

Wanderers have a lot of options in the final third out wide where Darcy tends to operate, including Dapo Afolayan, Xavier Amaechi, Amadou Bakayoko and Fossey, as well as injured duo Elias Kachunga and Lloyd Isgrove, who should both return later this season.

Evatt believes there will not be a 'huge amount' of exits at Wanderers in the remainder of this transfer window.

So far this month, striker Eoin Doyle, attacking midfielder Ali Crawford and most recently earlier on today, defender Harry Brockbank, have departed the University of Bolton Stadium.

Though Evatt does not envisage too many more departures from Wanderers this month, the Bolton boss is not sure at this stage if Darcy will be shipped out temporarily to another club to get more minutes under his belt, but things can change as the transfer window approaches its climax.

On Darcy potentially going back out on loan, Evatt said: “Maybe, maybe not, we’ll see and we’ll see what happens in January.

"There’s still a couple of weeks in this month and things change day to day.”
