Champ the Wonder Dog searches for new home after owner is hospitalised

He loves nothing more than cuddling up with his favourite people - but has found himself homeless after his owner was hospitalised.

Champ the Wonder Dog was taken in by the RSPCA's Macclesfield, South East Cheshire and Buxton Branch in April after being "abandoned" in a flat.

After asking around, it was discovered someone was meant to be seeing to the eight-year-old dog after his owner was admitted into hospital with coronavirus.

Now, the Staffordshire bull terrier is up for adoption with the RSPCA - and is searching for a new home with owners who can spoil him with attention.

A statement reads: "Champ is a lovely staffy who likes nothing more than human attention.

He loves spending time with his owners (RSPCA)

"He desperately wants to come and say hello and shower you with his special brand of Champ affection.

"He’ll jump up for a cuddle and settle in for a nap next to you, or on your lap, and you’ll be left in no doubt that he loves to be loved.

"If you let him, he’ll happily dive under the covers at bedtime and sleep next to your feet, maybe time for a quick cuddle first."

Champ is very excitable and is known to jump up at people when he is taken out on walks - however, he is generally calm when settled at home.

"When he gets too excited he lets out his half whimper half bark, he cannot contain his excitement," the statement adds.

"Don’t let his grey facial hair lead you to think he’s anything but full of energy."

While Champ loves going on walks, he doesn't mix well with others so his new owner would have to try to avoid other dogs when out and about.

The statement said: "He loves his walks but does try to take himself for a walk by grabbing the lead.

"He loves to take in as many of the smells when outside as he can. If there are any daffodils on the route, you can be sure he’ll march straight through them.

"He travels fine in the car but will find it quite exciting and the whimpering noises will resume!

"With the help of a little cheese, he’s nearly learnt to sit when asked. He always takes his treats very politely!

Champ needs a secure garden as he got out of a loose gate when in foster care. He has now been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

"Whoever is lucky enough to get to adopt Champ will revel in the abundance of love and affection that he loves to give, a little rub on the back or his belly is all he asks in return," the statement adds.
