Former governor Chadchart Sittipunt remained a preferred choice for voters to return to run the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in the gubernatorial election next month.
Mr Chadchart garnered 31.5% of endorsements from eligible voters in a KPI poll released on Friday, while his closest rival was Chaiwat Sathawornwichit of the People’s Party at 13.1%.
The KPI poll also found 60.7% of voters in the 2023 gubernatorial election continued to support Mr Chadchart in his second run.
The poll result was in the same pattern as the two earlier surveys by Suan Dusit University, which placed the former governor in the lead followed by Mr Chaiwat. Voters in the two Suan Dusit polls also wanted an experienced candidate to lead the capital.
The KPI poll by King Prajadhipok’s Institute polled 1,600 eligible voters across Bangkok from May 22-25. Almost a quarter of voters were still undecided on their choice, according to the poll.
Mr Chadchart and Mr Chaiwat are among 16 candidates registered for the race on the first day, which was Thursday. The elections are set for June 28 for both the Bangkok governor and city council.
Other candidates in the KPI survey were:
- Malika Boonmetrakool Mahasook, independent 7.5%
- Lt Gen Charnthep Sesaves, Economic Party 6.6%
- ML Kornkasiwat Kasemsri, independent 6.2%
- Komsan Panwichartkul, independent 6.1%
- Anucha Burapachaisri, Democrat Party 4.9%
The BMA is targeting voter turnout of at least 60% in the local election next month. The Pattaya mayoral election will be held on the same day.
