Boston Celtics camp invitee Jake Layman may soon be headed to play overseas in Greece according to new reporting from SDNA’s Tolis Kotzias (via BasketNews). Per Kotzias, the former Maryland player will end up playing for Panathinaikos Athens if “nothing changes in the near future,” presumably with regard to an offer by another NBA team.
The potential move to Athens seems to be waiting only for Layman’s agent to hear back from whatever NBA clubs he may be in conversation with. Reports have said Panathinaikos and Layman have already agreed on terms.
The 28-year-old didn’t work out with Boston. His brief appearances in the Celtics’ preseason games were not noteworthy, but over 243 games played across six seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves, the Norwood, Massachusetts, native averaged 4.8 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.
