Celtic's Mika Baur set for first Germany cap as Klopp brings in 'second squad'

Mika Baur could be set to become the first Celtic star to play for Germany for 17 years this week after he was confirmed in Jurgen Klopp's 'second squad' for their games.

The Hoops midfielder was named in a huge Germany squad of 44 players for their Nations League batch of games.

The former Liverpool manager revealed he would split the group into two and would confirm his second squad for their games against Serbia and Greece after the opening two matches.

And, after their shock 1-0 home defeat to Greece at the weekend - the first time they had ever lost to the Greeks - Baur is now part of their 25-man squad for their remaining games.

Baur is one of nine uncapped players in the squad as Klopp rings the changes.

If the 22-year-old makes his bow in Munich against Serbia or in the Thessaloniki rematch against Greece, he would be the first Celtic player to represent Germany since 2009.

Ex-Hoops full back Andreas Hinkel made the last of his 21 appearances for Germany in a 7-2 friendly win against the United Arab Emirates 16 years ago.

Klopp reckoned Germany were unlucky in their defeat.

He said: "Football, that's how it is.

"I could have easily accepted a draw but losing - that's harsh. I don't think we deserved that, but it happened anyway.

"Greece had a plan for the game tonight. We have to be more convinced about what we are doing."
