Haissem Hassan played an hour for Egypt despite a belief he would be missing through injury.
The Egyptians took on Angola in an AFCON qualifier this evening and manager Hossam Hassan was quoted as saying the Parkhead winger was unavailable and had to undergo "intensive treatment" for an injury.
He said: "Haissem Hassan is receiving intensive treatment just now.
"But I am not worried about his absence because we have a lot of excellent players to replace him.
"Haissem is a vital technical asset for our long-term vision, but his recent injury made it impossible for him to join us for this camp.
"We prioritise player health and full physical recovery above all else and we expect him back once he is 100 per cent fit.
"We cannot halt our progress or make excuses because of injuries.
"The secret to our success lies in navigating these difficulties, and I assure everyone that the team are fully ready."

Egypt will now face South Sudan and Celtic will be keeping a keen eye on the fitness of Hassan.
Especially as fellow winger Yang has revealed he has a hamstring problem after missing South Korea's Asian Games quarter-final win over Vietnam.
Speaking post-match, he said: "I have a minor injury to my hamstring. Right now, I am preparing with the goal of reaching the semi-finals and the finals.
"I was selected as a wild card, but since I haven't been in good physical condition recently and now I'm on top of that with an injury, I feel really sorry for my teammates. I also feel like I'm not being of any help.
"So I tried to be of even a little more help from the bench. I also check on their daily lives to see if they are experiencing any inconveniences, and I try to do whatever they need. The goal is a quick recovery."
