The Boston Celtics have officially announced their drafting of a pair of prospects in the 2024 NBA draft in a press release. The Celtics took Creighton shooting guard Baylor Scheierman at No. 30 overall in the first round of the draft this past Wednesday (June 26) evening.
After that, they selected Gonzaga power forward Anton Watson with the No. 54 pick of the draft in the second round on Thursday (June 27) afternoon. “Scheierman appeared in 162 career games (133 starts) over five collegiate seasons at South Dakota State (2019-22) and Creighton (2022-24), where he averaged 13.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 31.6 minutes per game,” noted Boston in the release.
Scheierman “became the first men’s player in Division I history with at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists, and 300 made 3-pointers,” they added.

“Watson appeared in 151 career games (94 starts) at Gonzaga (2019-24) and averaged 9.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.4 steals in 23.7 minutes per game,” noted the Celtics.
The new Boston forward “finished his collegiate career with the second-most steals (215) in program history, trailing only John Stockton, and posted the fourth-most steals in a single season in Gonzaga history with 66 steals in 2022-23. “
