Celtic transfer latest on Josip Juranovic as Atletico Madrid 'plan' World Cup scouting trip

Atletico Madrid are planning to watch Josip Juranovic at the World Cup ahead of a potential swoop for the Celtic star, according to a report.

It's claimed the Croatia international turned down a new contract and could now leave Celtic with the La Liga giants one of the teams believed to be keen on snapping him up. He's had the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea previously linked but it has been suggested in a report from Spain that Diego Simeone's men could send a scout to watch him closer against Brazil.

Ange Postecoglou swooped for the full-back last summer in a £2.5million transfer from Legia Warsaw and after a hugely impressive debut campaign he could be set for a big move to Madrid as they bid to kick-start their campaign following the finals in Qatar. They currently sit fifth in the standings - level on points with Athletic Club but 13 points off table toppers Barcelona.

El Gol report that Atletico are considering a move with some of the characteristics in his game key . The Scottish champions have already snapped up a potential replacement in the shape of fellow World Cup star Alistair Johnston.

The Canada full-back has put pen to paper on a long-term deal and will join his new side alongside highly-regarded defender Yuki Kobayashi.

Johnston's signature could allow Juranovic to complete a move away from Parkhead with cover already in the door. Anthony Ralston is another who has impressed for the Hoops under Postecoglou and can slot in if a deal is to happen.

Juranovic is under contract at Celtic until 2026 and has won the Scottish Premiership and Premier Sports Cup - now known as the Viaplay Cup - during his time in Glasgow. He also tasted Champions League experience this season coming up against Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donestk and RB Leipzig.
