Celtic should sign 'no-nonsense' Moritz Jenz on permanent transfer claims Parkhead hero

Celtic should move to permanently sign on-loan defender Moritz Jenz because Ange Postecoglou could do with a 'no-nonsense' defender.

That is the view of Parkhead hero Frank McAvennie who has praised the German's spell at Celtic so far. Jenz was acquired in the summer to bolster defensive options in Glasgow with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt's partnership becoming strong over a number of months. But the 23-year-old was a smart swoop as Starfelt suffered a lengthy injury and Jenz was brought in for crucial league and Champions League encounters.

The centre-half, however, is still on loan from French side FC Lorient but the Hoops do have an option to buy in the deal. The Parkhead man has not hidden his love affair for the Scottish champions since joining, after he revealed a move almost materialised in the previous window when friend Matt O'Riley joined up.

Celtic have moved to add more to their backline with Japanese star Yuki Kobayashi penning a five-year deal, while fringe man Stephen Welsh could be heading the other way according to reports. But McAvennie insists a permanent deal for Jenz would be a huge benefit.

He told Football Insider: "I think he has done well. He is a no-nonsense defender. He just does what he says on the tin. He gets the ball and can give it to somebody that can play or gets it up the pitch. He does not mess about and he is only going to get better. He has been in and out.

"It is whoever plays with [Cameron] Carter-Vickers at the moment but I would think Ange has got to strengthen the squad. I would give him a contract. I think he tries to cut out the mistakes. I like defenders to defend, I know the manager does not but I do so I would like him to stay.“
