Celtic's Jota 'Glaswegian now' as Hoops star shows off Scots lingo after Parkhead heroics

Jota has responded to his opening day return to Celtic with a very Scottish turn of phrase.

The Portuguese winger lit up Parkhead on the Premiership's maiden matchday for season 2022/23, scoring a fine solo winner in the 2-0 victory over Aberdeen. It sets up Celtic nicely for a trip to Ross County and that is partly down to Jota, who returned to the club this summer after a loan from Portuguese giants Benfica during last season.

In his sole year in Glasgow, the winger clearly picked up some Scottish slang, as he responded to questions on his first competitive outing of the season.

Jota told Sky Sports: "Aye, definitely. It's always important to start with a goal, then we get the confidence going and now with our principles or our game, the high tempo, we just have to get better and I think we are going to good place.

"I just got the opportunity to shoot and it went in, I was very happy. I don't like that, some people say 'that's your perfect team' but it's not like that.

"It's just the way the games go and I come this game the same way I go to Rangers, the same way I go to Dundee, whatever. It just happens that I score, as long as the team is happy, playing good football, all my team-mates are getting better, that's what I aim for."

One fan said 'he's a Glaswegian now,' another hailed Jota 'our wee Portuwegian superstar' and another adding 'It'll be "aye defos" before the season is over.'
