Celtic are set to enhance their bid for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels, reportedly offering £9million after their initial proposal of £6.5m was turned down.
Sources indicate that while the Bundesliga club has placed a valuation of £11m on the 20-year-old, the Scottish Premiership powerhouse remain optimistic that their latest offer could secure the player's transfer before Friday's deadline.
Brendan Rodgers is particularly eager to add Engels to his squad, especially after the gap that's been left following Matt O’Riley’s recent move to Brighton.
It appears that Engels is also interested in making the switch to Celtic, drawn by the prospect of competing in the Champions League.
Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with Augsburg still desperately trying to keep their star man.

Celtic are also said to want another left-back, a further midfield option plus possible cover up front over the coming days.
In other news, LAFC playmaker Mateusz Bogusz, who's on Celtic's radar, has been called up to the Poland national team squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Scotland and Croatia in September.
Talks are still ongoing for Bogusz's services.
