An average performance combined with a clinical Celtic side were a perfect mixture for a heavy Hamilton defeat, admits head coach Gary Doctor.
Off the back of a tremendous 1-0 Lanarkshire derby win away at Motherwell, Accies were brought back to earth with a 6-0 loss to Celtic in SWPL 1.
They remain bottom of the league and face Hibs this weekend.
Charlie Wellings’ hat-trick, Olivia Chance and Clarissa Larisey goals plus Jacynta Galabadaarachchi’s deflected cross sealed Celtic’s comprehensive win.
Doctor knows his side put plenty of effort into the match but they still remained a yard off keeping up with Celtic’s pace.
He said: “We are where we are for a reason. We have been inconsistent at times and we have had a decent spell of form. Perhaps there was potential for a below-par performance and it came at a time where Celtic were good.
“That’s the best they have played against us and those two things combined made it what it was.
“It was a hard day for us and we need to put these games to bed. We can’t be too dismissive of it though and we need to take some learning from it heading into future games.
“We are all a bit disappointed. We agreed we were a bit flat after the high and relief of last week. But at the top level, we need to be more consistent.
“We can’t drop off as we did on Sunday. We need to make ourselves fitter, mentally, physically and technically. There are things we can do to make ourselves more of a threat and a challenge to teams like Celtic.”
