Thistle's Borland also has Spurs keeping tabs on his progress and he recently completed a trial spell at Liverpool - who snapped up Calvin Ramsey from Aberdeen in the summer.

The new registration rules means that clubs can now send letters to other teams and if their player wishes to hold talks then they will be allowed to do that this month with players able to sign pro terms when they turn 16.

The Hoops have been forward planning with recruitment across all levels with Postecoglou already snapping up World Cup star Alistair Johnston and highly-rated J-League defender Yoki Kobayashi ahead of the January transfer window opening.

Josip Juranovic could depart next month with the full-back doing his chances no harm with a stunning display for Croatia against Brazil in the World Cup quarter-finals. Atletico Madrid were believed to be watching him and they will no doubt have been impressed with his role in the shock shootout win over the tournament favourites.
