Celtic hero Scott Brown 'to offer' former Aberdeen pal Mikey Devlin chance to win Fleetwood Town deal

Scott Brown is ready to offer Mikey Devlin the chance to win a deal at Fleetwood Town with the Scotland international beginning pre-season with the English League One side.

The former Celtic skipper knows the defender well from their shared time at Aberdeen and wants the stopper to prove his fitness after a nightmare run of injuries. His last top team appearance was in 2020 due to his continued battle for full fitness.

The 28-year-old was handed fresh terms by the Dons as he bid to make a full recovery but suffered a couple of setbacks during that period and didn't make a single appearance for the Reds last season. He agreed to terminate his contract at the club at the end of the season and is now hoping for a fresh start and for the luck he needs to get his career back on track. Devlin, 28, wants to have a crack at England and his former team-mate Brown could be the man to deliver that shot according to the Daily Record.

The legendary Celtic skipper has already snapped up one defender from Scotland after agreeing a deal for Shaun Rooney, who arrived from St Johnstone.

It's his first managerial position since hanging up his boots.

Speaking after landing the job last month, he said: “I’m delighted to have been named Head Coach at Fleetwood Town, it’s a great opportunity at a really exciting club.

“I’ve always had a real desire to move into management and can’t wait to meet the players and staff and get started.

"The hard work starts now - I’m now looking forward to getting onto the grass."
