Celtic boss Fran Alonso's private apology from Rangers coach Craig McPherson and what he said

Celtic women's boss Fran Alonso got the apology he "wanted to hear" after he was 'headbutted' by his Rangers rival.

Coach Craig McPherson was hit with a six-match ban for this shocking behaviour after the SWPL teams drew at Broadwood Stadium.

Alonso wouldn't comment on his opinion of the punishment and insists it is time to move on and focus on his team's title challenge, the Daily Record reports.

He did however reveal that Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell and chief executive Michael Nicholson commended him for his handling of the incident where he was headbutted from behind.

He explained: "The day after the event, our CEO and our chairman and many of our directors, they called me to express how proud they were of my behaviour, my players' behaviour and to express that they have my back whatever happens and that to me is what matters."

He said: "Craig did call me and apologise and he said that neither myself nor Celtic did anything wrong and for me that is what I wanted to hear. I am ready to move on. We are playing for our lives here. I want all the focus to be on football."
