Aberdeen were slammed into the Hotline dock after their meek defeat at St Mirren.
But it wasn’t the Dons fans who were having a pop. It was Rangers supporters.
Seven days after digging out a fighting 1-1 draw with the Light Blues at Pittodrie, Stephen Glass’ team produced a weak performance on Tuesday night to lose in Paisley.
Irwin Houston, Glasgow, led the way as he said: “Once again we see the real Aberdeen get beaten in their next league game after having played Rangers. This proves once and for all that the only team in the Premiership that they turn up for is against Rangers.”
Alan Lansdowne, Renfrew, said: “Good to see the real Aberdeen turn up in Paisley. Must have been gutting for them that St Mirren were not wearing blue.”
Stacey Allen sarcastically emailed: “Great result for St Mirren beating the mighty world beaters that are Aberdeen. Did not see that one coming."
Alexander McFadden also emailed to agree with Irwin and said: “Again Aberdeen prove they’ve only got four games in them a season when it comes to effort, team togetherness and willingness to win. And those games are reserved for Rangers.”
The fall-out from last weekend’s Scottish Cup tie between Alloa and Celtic continued after Ange Postecoglou urged refs to protect players.
Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “Can you imagine the meltdown if the challenges on Celtic players had been on Rangers players? They would demand the resignation of every referee in Scotland.”
However, Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, emailed to counter: “Football is a physical hard contact game and always should be. Luckily they weren't up against Dave Mackay, Billy McNeill or Harold Davis. Too many powder puffs in today’s game who fall over if you touch them.”
John Bruce got in touch to discuss the ramifications of the growing Celtic injury list in the title race.
He said: “Celtic’s ploy to have the Old Firm game postponed and the winter shutdown brought forward has really come back to bite them. Not only has their team been weakened by the loss of injured and absent players vital to their team, but Rangers could virtually be at full strength by next week, with only Ianis Hagi and Alfredo Morelos missing.
“Rangers may even be strengthened further by the arrival of John Souttar and another quality signing. Karma is a wonderful thing.”
Neil McTaggart reckons Rangers still need to hit the market again before the window closes and said: “It’s completely unacceptable we’re going into the second half of the season with a weaker squad.
“Even a blind man can see we need a right winger, right back and an attacking midfielder. And since it’s gone back to five subs, it makes a mockery of letting Jermain Defoe leave.”
Neil Renton, Edinburgh, had a tongue firmly in cheek as he added: “With Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst saying his side need to go into the transfer market, they should make Scott Brown their number one target. He’d give them the fire in their belly they so desperately need.”
On a more sombre tone, tributes continued for ex-Celtic boss Wim Jansen after the Dutchman's sad passing.
Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “I will never forget the impact Wim made at Celtic, I think it was meant for him to become part of this amazing club after winning a European Cup against us.
“A great man and manager and signing one of the best players in Celtic’s history.”
Kenny Wilson, Moffat, added: “Sad news to hear the passing of Wim Jansen who will be forever part of Celtic’s history.
“Stopping 10 in a row in his only season in charge along with a cup. Imagine what he would have achieved in three seasons.”
William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: “Only with the club for one year, but still managed to stop Rangers’ 10 in a row and won a double. For that he will always be a legend. RIP.”
