CBS ranks Georgia basketball surprisingly high heading into season

CBS Sports ranks the Georgia Bulldogs surprisingly high entering the 2023-2024 college basketball season. The media generally projects Georgia to finish 12th in the SEC, but CBS is much higher on the Bulldogs.

CBS has Georgia No. 44 in the country and No. 8 in the SEC. CBS projects Texas A&M sixth in the country and as the top team in the SEC.

An offer for UGA fans

Georgia basketball and head coach Mike White return a more talented team than the 2022-2023 edition of the Bulldogs that finished 16-16. Georgia plays a more difficult schedule this season that features nonconference games against Florida State, Wake Forest and Oregon.

CBS is confident in Georgia coach Mike White.

Who will be the chaos agent in the SEC? Almost no one has UGA projected this high, but I’ll remind you that Mike White has never had back-to-back mediocre seasons in his 12-year career. This is a dart throw informed by history.

The Bulldogs open the 2023-2024 basketball season on Nov. 6 against the Oregon Ducks in Las Vegas, Nevada. Georgia has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2015, but if the Bulldogs can finish as the No. 44 team in the country, Georgia would have a legitimate chance to return to March Madness.

CBS is intrigued by Georgia’s talented transfer additions.

Let’s see what sort of stew these guys cook up. Names to follow: Noah Thomasson (Niagara), Jalen DeLoach (VCU), Russel Tchewa (South Florida), RJ Melendez (Illinois) and D-II player of the year RJ Sunahara (Nova Southeastern).

We expect Georgia to finish better than last year’s 16-16 campaign. However, we think it would be expecting a lot to think that Georgia will make the NCAA Tournament. It would be a pleasant surprise if we’re proven wrong.
