Castle Douglas golfer helps American college team finish fourth in debut season

A Castle Douglas golfer has been living the American dream.

Ailsa Brannock and her American teammates finished fourth in their debut season in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Finals, which took place between May 9 and 12.

And Ailsa, who has just returned home after her freshman year at Odessa College in Texas, USA, finished an amazing second overall in the individual championship, losing out by one shot.

The success continued when a week after her return, Ailsa who is a member of Castle Douglas and Southerness clubs, won the Galloway Ladies Championship at Newton Stewart Golf Club with rounds of 72 and 67.

Her first round equalled the course record and her second-round score set a new course record for the ladies tees at Newton Stewart Golf Club.

Ailsa then travelled to Ladybank, Fife to compete in the Scottish Ladies Amateur Championship. She finished the 36-hole stroke play round in the seventh qualifying position for the Championship match-play stage. Ailsa won both her games on Saturday to qualify for the semi-finals on Sunday. She lost the semi-final 2 and 1 but she was very pleased with her performance over the three days.

Ailsa said “Thank you to all the people that sent me messages of support on Saturday night.

“ It was a great experience and a great start to my individual season.”

Her next major event will be with the Galloway Ladies Team in the County Jamboree to be held over three days at Powfoot Golf Club when the winning team qualify for the national finals to be held later in the year.
