Voters in the Castle Douglas and Crocketford ward will have a chance to grill their local council election candidates at a hustings on Monday evening.
The meeting, organised by Castle Douglas Development Forum, will get under way in the town hall at 7pm with retiring local councillor David James in the chair.
It is believed to be the first political hustings staged in the town since the Scottish independence referendum campaign of 2014.
All eight candidates – Liz Ashburn (Greens), Pauline Drysdale and Iain Kennedy-Moffat (Conservative), Gill Dykes (Independent), Keith Heron (Labour), Iain Howie (Independent), Iain McDonald (Lib Dems) and John Young (SNP) have confirmed their attendance.
Forum chairperson Carolyn Yates says: “CDDF is delighted to host this event and that David James has agreed to chair proceedings.
“He has experience of local hustings, having successfully chaired the hustings in Dalbeattie for the general election.
“We want this event to be about Castle Douglas and Crocketford so we hope that the issues raised will be about what matters to our community and our future.
“We expect people to hold different views but to be respectful.
“This is an opportunity to ask thoughtful questions and hear a range of thoughtful answers.”
Councillor James said: ”It has been an honour to serve the Castle Douglas and Crocketford Ward as a councillor for the past five years.
“That role, that I am now retiring from, brought me into frequent contact with the Castle Douglas Development Forum.
“Now, I am delighted to help the charity host the hustings.
“Bringing democracy back into the town hall is just one more way in which they are supporting our community.
“Of course, as a CDDF volunteer, I will be wearing a very neutral hat.
Glenkens Community and Arts Trust (GCAT) is also hosting a hustings for the neighbouring Dee and Glenkens ward at the Catstrand the same evening.
