Mobile video game publisher SciPlay late Wednesday beat Wall Street's target for sales in the fourth quarter and matched views on earnings. SCPL stock has been outperforming other video game stocks lately.
Las Vegas-based SciPlay earned 32 cents a share on sales of $182.1 million in the December quarter. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected SciPlay earnings of 32 cents a share on sales of $177.5 million. On a year-over-year basis, SciPlay earnings rocketed 256% while sales rose 18%.
"SciPlay capped a pivotal year with strong fourth-quarter and full-year results," Chief Executive Josh Wilson said in a news release. "SciPlay's strong performance was powered by strategic investments made in key initiatives including proprietary technologies, data science and marketing."
For the full year, SciPlay earned 91 cents a share, up 18%, on sales of $671 million, up 11%.
SciPlay Stock In Top 9% of Stocks
In after-hours trading on the stock market today, SCPL stock was not active. During the regular session Wednesday, SCPL stock fell 0.7% to close at 16.43.
SCPL stock has an IBD Relative Strength Rating of 91 out of 99. That means it has outperformed 91% of stocks on the market over the last 52 weeks.
SciPlay makes mobile video games mostly based on casino games. Its popular titles include "Jackpot Party Casino," "Gold Fish Casino," "Quick Hit Slots," "Monopoly Slots" and "Hot Shot Casino." It also makes casual games such as "Bingo Showdown," "Solitaire Pets Adventure" and "Backgammon Live."
SCPL Stock Ranks First In Video Game Stocks
SCPL stock ranks first out of 23 video game stocks in IBD's Computer Software-Gaming industry group, according to IBD Stock Checkup. It has an IBD Composite Rating of 90 out of 99. That puts it in the top 10% of stocks in terms of key fundamental and technical metrics over the past year.
However, the video game stocks group ranks a weak No. 169 out of 197 industry groups that IBD tracks. IBD trading guidelines recommend focusing on top-rated stocks in leading industry groups.
SCPL stock is one of only two video games stocks to make the IBD Tech Leaders list. The other is China-based NetEase.
