Cash boost for Rutherglen group which supports people with additional needs

A Rutherglen-based group which delivers a range of services for people with additional support needs and their families are to receive a cash boost from South Lanarkshire Council.

Enable (Rutherglen and district branch) asked for a total of £925 from the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Area Committee 2022/2023 community grant budget.

And the sum, which will be spent on an outing and entrance fees for service users, was approved at a recent meeting of the Committee on Thursday, October 6.

In a report of the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Area Committee it describes: "The Council operates a community grants scheme to support local constituted community groups and voluntary organisations. All applications require to be supported by a constitution, audited accounts or annual income and expenditure accounts, a bank statement, and confirmation that the group/organisation will adhere to the conditions of the grant award.

"Applications are invited continually throughout the year. The main aims of the community grants scheme are to fund activities and projects which bring community benefit; involve people in the community by bringing them together to enjoy educational, recreational, leisure and other community activities or to improve the local environment."

Members of the committee unanimously agreed to the request for funding.

Enable Scotland is one of the most impactful organisations in delivering support, employability and skills services and advocacy on behalf of people with additional support needs and their families in communities across Scotland. They are at the forefront of innovation in the provision of their services, as they work to achieve a more equal society on behalf of all those they support.

The budget for the community grants for the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Area Committee in 2022/2023 started at £25,750 with £7,200 already allocated this financial year. The allocated £925 to Enable, leaving a remaining balance of £17,625.
