Casemiro explains why his name is purposefully spelt wrong on Manchester United shirt

Manchester United star Casemiro has revealed that his name has been spelt wrong on his shirt for most of his career, but admitted that he doesn't want it to change anytime soon.

The Brazilian midfielder quickly became a fan-favourite at Old Trafford after arriving from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, with the 30-year-old registering four goals and five assists in 29 appearances for United. The five-time Champions League winner has won numerous trophies around the world and has become a vital performer for the Reds this term.

It turns out that Casemiro's name has been spelt wrong on his shirt for a number of years. It was first spelt incorrectly during his time with his first club Sao Paulo - and it has been the same ever since.

Explaining what happened during an interview on Football Focus, Casemiro said: "So the thing is, my name is Carlos Henrique Casimiro, with an 'I' there.

"I remember that I played a game for Sao Paulo and the club got my name wrong. They wrote it with an 'E'. I played really well in that game and as I'm a superstitious person, I said to them, 'Just leave it like that, as things are going well!'

"So the name stuck, but my name is Carlos Henrique Casimiro. It was a mistake made in one game, the name stuck and I said, 'No need to change it, leave it as it is'".

Casemiro has thrived at all of the clubs he has played for. His impact at Old Trafford is demonstrated by the fact that Erik ten Hag's side have lost just twice this season when the Brazilian midfielder has started. He has helped United move into the top four of the Premier League and into the Carabao Cup final later this month.
