Carson Wentz could be the backup QB the Steelers need

After just one season, the Washington Commanders have moved on from quarterback Carson Wentz. The Commanders chose to go in a new direction with new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and this could be just what the Pittsburgh Steelers need.

Pittsburgh currently has Kenny Pickett as the face of the franchise and needs to make space behind him. Mason Rudolph is a free agent and isn’t overly excited to come back to the Steelers. The team does have Mitch Trubisky but his contract is bloated and is going to be a potential salary-cap casualty.

The Steelers could bring in Wentz as Pickett’s backup on a one-year contract and take advantage of his experience as something of a mentor. Wentz has 22,129 career passing yards and has started 92 games in seven seasons. No one is asking him to carry the team but if Pittsburgh could sign him for significantly less than what they would have to pay Trubisky, it’s a win. After all, Wentz made more than $105 million during his career. Selling him on the idea of an easy season on a rising team might be easy.

Let us know in the comments if you think Wentz should be the Steelers target to back up Pickett this season and if not, who are you taking?
