Actress Caroline Quentin says says sci-fi series The Lazarus Project predicted COVID pandemic

The new Sky sci-fi series, The Lazarus Project, predicted the coronavirus pandemic - and even the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, actress Caroline Quentin revealed to The One Show.

Caroline's latest role sees her playing Wes, the head of a highly secretive organisation tasked to prevent worldwide extinction events. Made in Wales, it is also a drama about time travel, with actor Paapa Essiedu playing the lead character, George.

Caroline said: "The Lazarus Project is a secret organisation and I'm the boss, or the person you meet who's highest in the organisation but, as we come to find out, there are many tiers above me. It's about a group of people who, when humanity puts itself in danger, whether it be from a nuclear war - or a pandemic - my organisation, and ultimately the buck stops with me, can turn back time. On July 1 every year, we can move time backwards."

Revealing the astonishing Nostradamus-like insight of writer Joe Barton, who wrote the drama several years ago, she added: "He wrote the scripts before we filmed it - and there is a pandemic. Things like SARS have been around but what he's done is predict the worldwide pandemic. And we show that in our programme."

"It's quite peculiar to have filmed something where eveyone's masked all the time - before that actually happened," she added. "And then we look at that back and, of course, he did predict real-world events."

Caroline added that one of the episodes also depicts a scenario where Russian troops are massing on the border of Ukraine. That's pretty spooky if you ask me.

"The stunts are so great," she said: "The thing about it is it's a massive show but it also has a domestic love affair. There is a warm heart to it although it's about world events."

Caroline added: "I've never been a science fiction fan and when I was given the script I thought 'I really don't want to have to plough through this for eight hours. But when I got them (the scripts) I read them through in one night. It's a great story, thrilling. "

She was joined on the sofa by celebrity chef and food writer Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. He was on the show to tell viewers about the return of River Cottage, on Channel 4, after a break of 10 years.

The Lazarus Project (originally titled Extinction) is due to air on Sky on Thursday (June 16). It will also be available on Now TV.
