Former world champion Magnus Carlsen-led SG Alpine Warriors jumped to joint lead with V Anand's Ganges Grandmasters after the latter suffered their first defeat in the Global Chess League (GCL) in Dubai on Sunday.
While Anand scored full points with a 48-move win over Maxime Vachier Lagrave, his squad failed to keep the momentum and suffered their first loss in the league when Upgrad Mumba Masters outclassed them 11-6. Despite the defeat, Ganges managed to stay on top and are sharing the lead with nine match points after the Warriors defeated Chingari Gulf Titans 11-6. Based on the Game Points, Anand's Ganges still have a 38-34 advantage over Warriors.
